Jair Bolsonaro has been detained after authorities concluded he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under domestic detention.

The one-time leader was convicted of planning a government overthrow in last fall and handed more than a 27-year term in incarceration, but he remained under confinement pending court reviews.

High Court Judge the presiding justice said the decision to arrest the septuagenarian politician was a preventative measure after fresh information were revealed.

This involved trying to remove his electronic bracelet and a summons to a public vigil that could facilitate a chance to flee".

Judicial Records Show Escape Concerns

In a document approving the custody, the judge said data from the facility tracking the former president's confinement suggested the ex-president's aim to disable the tracking monitor to guarantee victory in his flight.

This, it said, would be made easier by the confusion caused by the protest called by his offspring.

His son, Flávio, who works as a legislator, called for a meeting of his backers near his father's house to take place on the weekend.

His son wrote on digital networks on last Friday: "Are you going to fight for your nation, or watch it all from your mobile device there on your sofa? I invite you to fight with us."

He said the gathering would be so supporters could "pray for his well-being and for the restoration of democratic rule in our country."

Diplomatic Refuge Fears

Part of the judge's decision was the possibility of the former president's transfer to embassies near the residence, considering that the probes revealed a history of arranging to ask for protection through a consular facility", a statement said.

The court filing highlights that the American diplomatic mission in the national capital, the capital city, is located around 13km from his dwelling.

Worldwide Consequences

His judicial problems have provoked anger from fellow populist conservative US President Trump, prompting him to impose a fifty percent tax on Brazilian product imports.

He is being detained in a federal law enforcement building in Brasilia and will have a custody hearing on the next day.

Latest Court Petitions

It was only on Friday that the his legal team asked the High Court to allow him to complete his entire prison term under home confinement, with tracking devices.

They also petitioned that he be authorized to exit his dwelling for medical treatment, saying he needed frequent medical attention for lung conditions and other health problems.

Details of Guilty Verdict

The former president was determined responsible of heading a scheme aimed at retaining his authority after he was defeated in the presidential race to his ideological adversary, President Lula.

Supreme Court justices said that he had knowledge of a plan which included plans to murder the current president and his vice-presidential running mate, Geraldo Alckmin, and to imprison and murder Alexandre de Moraes - the Supreme Court justice who has been presiding over his judicial proceedings.

The plot was thwarted because it couldn't obtain the endorsement of the armed forces officials. Lula was took office without problem on 1 January 2023.

But a seven days after, on January 8th, numerous his backers attacked and damaged official structures in the national capital, the capital city.

The law enforcement intervened and around 1,500 people were taken into custody.

The justices found that the protesters had been provoked by him whose scheme, they said, was for the Brazilian military to intervene, reestablish control and return him to office.

At the moment, his attorneys called the 27 years and three months sentence "absurdly excessive.

He was also barred from seeking elected position until twenty-sixty - eight years after the completion of his term.
